FRENCH, ANTIQUE, SAPPHIRE, DIAMOND, AND CULTURED PEARL INSECT BROOCH
Antique cushion cut sapphire weighing approximately 5.00 carats by formula, rose cut diamonds, and cultured pearls. Silver-topped 18 karat yellow gold. 1 1/2 x 1 1/4 inches.
Stamp: (French hallmark).
Gross weight: 9.05 dwt.
The insect was a popular motif in 19th century jewelry. This brooch is of French origin and depicts a bug landing on a couturier's pin.
